Recently, Jiangsu Bolaike completed a freeze-drying process trial for yak bone on behalf of a client. Compared with ordinary cattle bone, yak bone has a larger frame, higher density, and richer calcium, protein, and amino acid content. However, the traditional approach is to air-dry yak bone and then grind it directly into powder; during this process, a large share of nutrients is lost due to high-temperature oxidation, so the final product ends up not much different from ordinary cattle bone powder.

Bolaike's freeze-drying trial used a 30-square-meter medium-sized freeze-drying unit, achieving a nutrient retention rate of over 90% in the finished product. After freeze-drying, the internal structure of the yak bone becomes light and porous, breaking apart easily by hand, so it can then be ground into powder and packaged as a high-quality finished product. Freeze-dried yak bone powder holds notable value in the wellness market — for example, a 300-gram canned product can reach a retail price of 350 yuan, reflecting a meaningful increase in added value.
Yak bone is dense and thick, placing high demands on the freezing efficiency of the equipment. The shelf temperature of Bolaike's 30-square-meter medium-sized freeze-drying unit can reach -40°C, and the equipment is fitted with double-layer radiation plates with independent hot and cold circuits. The upper cold circuit uses direct-contact conductive cooling, applying cooling directly to the surface of the bone so the material freezes through quickly, helping to lock in nutrients. The equipment is also fitted with a domestic first-tier brand vacuum pump; vacuum levels drop quickly and remain stable, helping to prevent oxidation and spoilage throughout the freeze-drying process.
